Your car most likely has a dashcam, that you can’t access

Almost all cars from 2016+ have the option or come standard with auto braking in emergency situations. This is done with the camera that is seen in the image below:

In that cave looking feature, there is a camera in cars that come equipped with automatic braking and LKAS (Lane Keep Assist System), there IS a camera there.

Tesla vehicles use their vision based cameras to allow the user to use them as a dash-cam, the reason the image looks so weird is because they were not initially made for dash-cam use, they were made for computers to be able to visualize the environment around them, not using the same light waves that typical cameras use.

Regardless if the Camera shown above (Which is in the Toyota Camry) is a typical camera or the same tech that’s in the Tesla, users can’t access them no matter what.

The reason is because Toyota didn’t make this system themselves, this system is designed and created by a third party company (Like Bosch or similar). So Toyota can’t introduce features to this system without consulting another company. They would have to request the company to add a separate compute module that could take the camera feed and save it to a USB like Tesla can.

This is unfortunate because people have deemed Dash cams as a necessity, and the hardware is there, but it seems like the profit is not.
